Working with Literature in Business Catalyst

Literature is any document on your website that your customers can download. Customers see the file name and file type icon, with a link to download the file. Creating new literature on Business Catalyst is easy. At the same time you can classify it, make it 'Member Only' or assign it to an RSS channel.

Create New Literature 

To create literature you must first have a document or file - such as Microsoft Word or PDF.

  1. Go to Modules > Literature 
  2. Click Create a New Literature Item
  3. Enter the Literature Details - Literature Name and Literature Type (file type)
  4. Click Save
  5. Click Upload Literature to upload the file
  6. Select file from your computer in the Upload Manager

  7. Click Upload
  8. Add the Literature to a Web Page (if required)
  9. Classify this Literature (if required)
  10. Add the Literature to a Secure Zone (if required)
  11. Add the Literature to a RSS Channel (if required)

Add Literature to a Web Page

Literature can be inserted on a page via the Add Literature to a web page when viewing or editing the item itself. Select a page from your site and then click 1-Click Insert drop down. 1-Click Insert will give you the option to insert just one item, all items within a category or all of the items.

Alternatively, if you are viewing or editing the web page itself, you can insert literature items on the page via the Module Manager. Again, you are able to choose to only insert one item, all items within a category or all of the items.

Classifying Literature

Literature may be assigned to one or more categories. By classifying literature items you can publish groups of them at once on any web page. As you add more items to a category, they will automatically appear on your website without any further editing of web pages required.

Click Classify this item. Assign a classification by moving your desired categories from left to right.

You can manage your category list at any time under Admin > Manage Categories.

Add Literature to a Secure Zone

Literature items may be added to one or more Secure Zones. By adding an item to a Secure Zone, you restrict access to it to members of the Secure Zone. Website Visitors will not be able to access the item via a link or by their web site search.

Go to Website > Secure Zones > select the zone you want to add items to and click on Make Content Secure. Then simply select that are part of the secure zone by moving from left to right. This will automatically make these items secure.

Adding Literature to RSS channel

By adding a literature item to a RSS channel, subscribers to that channel will be able to see and read the item you just added, almost instantly.

Go to Website > RSS channels > select RSS channel you want to add items to and click Add items to RSS Channel. Use the arrows to move the items from left to right to make them secure.
